Expert: School education and family education should perform their respective duties.
In children’s learning, how should family education and school education be divided?
Xiong Bingqi, president of 21st Century Education Research Institute, pointed out in an interview with The Paper that last year, the Opinions on Deepening Education and Teaching Reform and Comprehensively Improving the Quality of Compulsory Education issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council pointed out that it is forbidden to turn students’ homework into parents’ homework or ask parents to check and correct homework, and punitive homework should not be arranged. Teachers should carefully correct homework, strengthen face-to-face explanation and give feedback in time.
Xiong Bingqi said that it is against the Opinions that school teachers ask parents to check and correct their homework and turn students’ homework into parents’ homework. Parents not only have the right to refuse, but also the relevant departments should strictly implement the Opinions and hold the teachers who ask parents to check and correct their homework accountable.
Xiong Bingqi believes that "parents should correct students’ homework" actually makes parents become off-campus counselors and homework revisers. When schools and teachers explain this practice, they call it home-school co-education, so that parents can participate in students’ learning and growth. This confuses the responsibilities of school education and family education, making family education turn around knowledge education and surround students in knowledge education, which not only increases the academic burden of students, but also alienates the parent-child relationship into score relationship and achievement relationship, which intensifies parents’ anxiety.
Xiong Bingqi suggested that family-school co-education must clearly define the responsibilities of school education and family education, with teachers as teachers and parents as parents. Only when school education and family education perform their respective duties can we create a healthy environment for children’s growth.
